Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel Credit: How It Works in 2026

Sapphire Reserve's flexible travel credit reimburses eligible travel-category spending. Its benefit year follows the account's anniversary cycle, unlike calendar-year hotel credits.

How to use the benefit

  1. Check the travel-credit tracker and your actual reset date.
  2. Pay a planned purchase that Chase categorizes as travel.
  3. Review the posted transaction and automatic credit.
  4. Track the remaining allowance before the account's next benefit year.

Restrictions and mistakes to avoid

  • Merchant category and posting date determine eligibility and the benefit period.
  • No travel portal is required.
  • The reimbursed portion does not earn points; returns can reverse the credit.

What is it actually worth?

For a hypothetical $240 qualifying train purchase with $300 remaining, the credit can offset $240 and leave $60. A later $100 qualifying purchase can use the remaining $60. This is easier to value when it replaces ordinary travel spending you already had planned.

These examples are hypothetical. Use the purchases you would have made anyway, include remaining charges, and avoid counting the same saving twice.

Common questions

Does it reset on January 1?

Generally no. Review the account-anniversary billing-cycle date in Chase's dashboard.

Do I have to book through Chase Travel?

No. Eligible travel-category purchases can qualify outside the portal.
