Bilt’s 2027 changes, explained: what to check before your card anniversary

#BiltPartner

Bilt’s chance to win $1 million toward a home is getting plenty of attention. There are also some changes to how you earn and use rewards that could matter a lot more to your everyday plans.

If you came here from my Reel, here’s the full breakdown. Start with the dates, then check the rules that apply to your card.

To the Point

  • Already updated: Bilt Cash gets a rolling expiration date, including existing balances.

  • January 1, 2027: Bilt Cash hotel redemptions drop from monthly to twice per calendar year.

  • January 15, 2027: Daily Rewards launches.

  • Your first card anniversary in 2027: existing cardholders move to the new benefits unless they choose to keep eligible older benefits before that date. New accounts opened January 1 onward start with the new structure.

Those dates are separate. You don’t need to make every decision on January 15. See Bilt’s announcement for the full timeline.

First, Bilt Points and Bilt Cash are different balances

Bilt Points are the rewards you can use for travel, including transfers to participating airline and hotel programs.

Bilt Cash is a credit balance for eligible uses inside Bilt’s program. You redeem it against specific benefits, with limits. You can’t withdraw it into your bank account.

That distinction matters when you see a headline promising “$600 in Bilt Cash.” Its usefulness depends on the redemptions you’ll actually use.

Daily Rewards: choose a reward, with a chance at bigger prizes

Starting January 15, qualifying neighborhood activity or an eligible on-time rent or mortgage payment can unlock Daily Rewards. You reveal two options and choose one. Options can include points, Bilt Cash or collectibles toward a chance at a larger prize.

Bilt is advertising prizes including $1 million toward a home. Full prize terms are still due before launch, so I wouldn’t put a dollar value on your chances yet. The amounts shown in promotional examples aren’t guaranteed rewards.

The important housing change: Bilt’s FAQ says members without a Bilt card receive Daily Rewards instead of guaranteed Bilt points on housing. Partner-card earning has separate treatment. Bilt cardholders continue earning housing points under their card’s rules and can receive Daily Rewards too.

You don’t need a Bilt card to participate. There are qualifying-activity and timing rules, including a 30-day window to reveal a reward. Check Bilt’s Daily Rewards FAQ before counting on a particular payment.

Bilt Cash lasts longer, but hotel use gets tighter

Bilt Cash now expires at the end of the month 12 months after you earn it. For example, cash earned in February 2026 expires February 28, 2027. The change includes existing balances, so the old year-end deadline no longer applies.

Hotels are the trade-off. Beginning January 1, Bilt Cash can be applied to eligible Bilt Travel hotel bookings only twice per calendar year, with a two-night minimum:

  • Blue or Silver status: up to $50 each time, or $100 total annually.

  • Gold or Platinum status: up to $100 each time, or $200 annually.

  • Eligible Palladium cardholders: up to $200 each time, or $400 annually.

“Eligible Palladium” means a new account opened January 1, 2027 or later, or an older account after its first 2027 anniversary that did not elect legacy benefits. Other Palladium holders use their status-based limit. Palladium is the card; Platinum is a status level.

You’re spending your existing Bilt Cash balance here. These limits don’t give you extra hotel credits. The Bilt Cash terms say twice per calendar year, so don’t assume one redemption in each half of the year.

Palladium’s $600 replaces the old credits

Under the new benefits, Palladium’s $200 annual Bilt Cash credit and $400 annual hotel credit become one $600 annual Bilt Cash credit at your anniversary. Obsidian’s $100 hotel credit becomes $100 in annual Bilt Cash.

For Palladium, that’s still $600 in headline benefits. The way you can use them changes. If you use the maximum $400 toward two eligible hotel bookings, you’d need other eligible redemptions for the remaining $200. Check those limits before treating the full amount as savings.

Everyday purchase point multipliers stay the same. The new structure earns up to 1.25 points per dollar on housing, depending on your spending relative to your housing payment. The maximum rate isn’t automatic.

Keeping 4% Bilt Cash takes a decision

Flexible mode earns 4% Bilt Cash on eligible everyday purchases, separate from your card’s usual points. Eligible existing cardholders who want to keep Flexible Bilt Cash mode must opt out of the new benefits in card settings before their first 2027 anniversary. Make sure Flexible mode is selected.

You keep the eligible legacy credits rather than getting the new $600 or $100 annual Bilt Cash benefit. You can’t stack both setups. The longer cash expiration and twice-yearly hotel redemption limit still apply. Palladium’s retained $200 annual Bilt Cash also moves to your anniversary.

You also lose monthly switching between Flexible and Housing-only modes. You can move permanently to the new structure later, effective the next billing cycle, but you can’t return to Flexible after that. Read the card terms before making the election.

I’d compare the rewards you can realistically redeem under each setup, using your normal spending. A bigger balance doesn’t help much if using it requires purchases you wouldn’t otherwise make.

A few smaller changes worth checking

Obsidian and Palladium keep Point Accelerator under the new benefits. In 2027, Gold and Platinum members can redeem points at checkout for Home Away from Home bookings. Rental-car status matches include SIXT ONE Gold and Hertz Five Star for Silver/Gold, and SIXT ONE Platinum and Hertz President’s Circle for Platinum. Check activation requirements before booking.

The Final Point

Bilt Cash gets more time to be useful. Hotel redemptions become less frequent. And your card anniversary brings a real choice.

Here’s what I’d do now:

  1. Find your 2027 card anniversary and current earning mode.

  2. Review your Bilt Cash balance and expiration dates.

  3. List the eligible redemptions you’d use anyway.

  4. Compare the new benefits with Flexible mode before the opt-out deadline.

  5. Check unused hotel credits before switching. At the default anniversary transition, any unused credit for the current benefit period expires.

Keep the prize possibilities as a bonus. Make your card decision around the rewards that fit your actual spending and travel.
